Neutral & Impartial | Illinois

Appraisal Umpire Services in Illinois

Neutral. Independent. Grounded in the Facts of the Loss.

When appraisers cannot agree on the amount of loss, an impartial umpire may be needed. Legacy Claims LLC offers neutral appraisal umpire services as a professional service entirely distinct from our public adjusting advocacy.

What Does an Appraisal Umpire Do?

In a property insurance appraisal, each side typically selects an appraiser. If those appraisers cannot agree on the amount of loss, the policy may call for an umpire to resolve the remaining differences. The umpire is not an advocate for either party.

An umpire's role is limited to the matters the appraisal addresses, generally the amount of loss. Appraisal procedures and requirements vary by policy and applicable law, and an umpire does not provide legal advice.

Impartiality & Independence

When serving as an umpire, Legacy Claims LLC does not represent the policyholder or the insurer.

Resolving Disagreements

We consider the appraisers' differing positions and work toward a determination on the points in dispute.

Evaluating Disputed Amounts

Each disputed item is evaluated on the facts of the loss and the supporting documentation.

Reasoned Documentation

Decisions are supported by professional documentation and a clear, reasoned evaluation.

Umpire Work Is Separate From Public Adjusting

As Umpire

Neutral and impartial. We do not advocate for either side, and we do not accept an umpire assignment on a matter where we represent a party.

As Public Adjuster

A dedicated advocate for the policyholder in the claims process. See our public adjusting services or our insurance appraisal services for the insured's side.

Umpire Assignment Inquiries
